Making an entrance…

Due to my work with film, I have converted a small room in my home into a screening room.
I built the entire theater myself including the box office window.

I hand painted a life cast of actor Johnny Depp and turned him into “Captain Jack Sparrow”, the ticket taker.

The theater features an Optoma High-Definition Projector and a 110 inch 1.85:1 aspect ratio film screen.
Surround sound is delivered through a PIONEER Elite THX Receiver and an ATLANTIC TECHNOLOGY THX CERTIFIED Speaker System.
And being the obsessive compulsive person that I am, iI couldn’t just have a plain screening room.
There are classical architectural elements throughout the theater.
Heavy gold crown mouldings and ornate medallions frame the screen.

The heart of the system is a PIONEER ELITE THX Surround Receiver.

Atlantic Technology THX CERTIFIED Speakers envelope viewers with earth shaking sound.

UPDATE 9/21/08- I have added gold silk and red suede cloth panels to the ceiling of the theater.

UPDATE: July 8, 2009
I finally installed 12 Irwin CINEMA SEATS!

STAY TUNED!

2/9/2010 - I moved my lifesized Frank Sinatra into the projection booth at the back of my theater.

Stay tuned….
UPDATE: August 2010 –
I hand-painted a night sky ceiling mural.

UPDATE: NOVEMBER 1, 2011 — I finally built the risers for STADIUM SEATING!!

UPDATE- OCTOBER 2011- With the addition of a CAVX Anamorphic Lens and a 144″ diagonal 2.40:1 aspect ratio screen, I am now showing epic films the way they were intended to be seen… In true CinemaScope!

Here is an example of what you lose by watching CinemaScope films letterboxed on a standard HDTV aspect ratio screen…

UPDATE: I wanted that ‘Classical proscenium’ look surrounding the screen so I designed, created and installed new drapes and bumped out the heavy gold-leafed crown moulding to add depth.
